NEWPORT, R.I. - Seniors Erica Manchester (Wakefield, R.I.), Raine Oesterle (Monroe, Conn.), and Christine Pala (Milford, Conn.) have been appointed captains of the Salve Regina University women's soccer team. Oesterle returns to the role she filled in 2015 while Manchester and Pala join her for the leadership in the 2016 season.

"True leaders know the way, go the way, and show the way," says second-year head coach Jane Walsh. "Our captains (Raine, Erica and Christine) are the right combination to lead the team this season. Raine keeps us in check, Erica keeps us organized, and Christine keeps us down to earth.  Together, they lead by example both on an off the field. They are the perfect role models for the team."

The Seahawks finished 9-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 competing in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) during 2015. Qualifying for the postseason for the first time in three years, Salve Regina has been picked by the league's head coaches to finish sixth this season.

After a season-opening 2-1 home loss to Keene State University on Thursday, the Seahawks return to the pitch with a road trip facing the Lancers of Worcester State University on Saturday.
