SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 20, 2015) – Freshman midfielder Delaney Maxell (Lincoln, R.I.) scored early in the second half, lifting visiting Salve Regina University to a 1-0 win over Western New England University this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action at Suprenant Field.

The two teams played a scoreless opening 45 minutes, with the Western New England defense holding the Seahawks without a shot. Salve Regina broke through for the game's only goal in the 55th minute, however, as freshman forward Abby McMackin (Walpole, Mass.) sent Maxell on a breakaway with a through ball from midfield. Maxell got past several Golden Bear defenders and beat senior goalkeeper Briana Kubik (Blandford, Mass.) with a shot inside the left post.

Western New England had an opportunity to tie the match in the 77th minute, when freshman forward Brooke Labrie's (Granby, Mass.) shot from the middle of the penalty area was just wide of the post. The Golden Bears also took five corner kicks over the final 10:38 of the contest, but Salve Regina was able to hold on for the win.

Labrie led the Western New England attack with four shots this afternoon, two of which were on target. The Golden Bears outshot Salve Regina 11-5 overall, and also held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Salve Regina sophomore goalkeeper Morgan McBrier (North Kingstown, R.I.) earned the win after coming on for the second half and stopping all three of the shots that came her way. Freshman Carly Pala (Milford, Conn.) made three saves over the opening 45 minutes for the Seahawks.

Western New England (3-12-2, 1-5-1 CCC) will be back at home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Nichols College, while Salve Regina (7-8-1, 2-4-1 CCC) hosts Endicott College on Saturday at noon.
