Buonopane bad pain for Seahawk women's soccer in OT

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.- Framingham State junior Olivia Buonopane (Middleton, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season in the 98th minute to send the Rams to victory over Salve Regina in non-conference women's soccer action Tuesday evening at Maple St. Field.

With the victory the Rams improve to 6-4-1 on the year and the Seahawks slip to 5-7.

With just 1:12 to play in the first overtime period Buonopane sent a long strike towards the net that looked like it was going to be deflected by a Rams player but carried straight towards the frame and snuck inside the post for the game deciding tally.

The Rams opened up scoring in the seventh minute of the contest when senior Marissa Miele (Hudson, Mass.) won a 50/50 ball at the top of the box and sent a low strike that snuck inside the left post to give the Rams 1-0 lead.

The Seahawks answered just over 30 minutes later when a Jessica Broadhurst's (Scarborough, Maine) free kick was headed in by Raine Oesterle (Monroe, Conn.) to put the Seahawks on the board.

Both teams had quality chances to end the contest in regulation but neither side was able to convert. The Rams had a free kick in the middle of the field from 32 yards out with under ten minutes to play but the kick went high.

In the final minute the Seahawks sent a ball towards the net when a Seahawks player bicycle kicked it into the arms of Rams keeper Sara Sullivan (Quincy, Mass.).

Sullivan made 10 saves in the win for the Rams. Morgan McBrier (No. Kingstown, R.I.) made six saves for the Seahawks after taking over for starter Carly Pala (Milford, Conn.) to start the second half.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, October 10, when they host Roger Williams in CCC action slated for noon. The Rams will travel to Westfield State for MASCAC matchup on Friday, October 9 for a 7 p.m. start.
