PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Salve Regina freshman forward Abby McMackin (Walpole, Mass.) and sophomore forward Emily Cuellar (Providence, R.I.) each notched a pair of goals as the Seahawks were able to topple the Rhode Island College women's soccer team, 6-1, at the RIC Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Salve (2-2) would strike in the 28th minute when McMackin took a Cuellar feed and found the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage. The Seahawks would double their lead in the 42nd minute when Cuellar found the back of the net off a pass by junior midfielder Erica Manchester (Wakefield, R.I.). Cuellar would net her second of the game just 23 seconds later when she raced out off a feed from freshman midfielder Delaney Maxwell (Lincoln, R.I.) to put the visitors up 3-0.
RIC (0-3) was outshot 14-3 in the first frame with the Seahawks also holding a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Anchorwomen would cut the deficit down to two, 3-1, when junior midfielder Jaclyn Greenman (Waterford, Conn.) took a short corner from freshman defender Eleni Grammas (Cranston, R.I.) and ripped a shot home in the 61st minute, her second consecutive game with a goal. Salve would put the pressure on in the following minutes, finally breaking through with three goals in a span of 4:02 to clinch the victory.
McMackin got the offense started in the 71st minute when she corralled a loose ball near midfield, outran the RIC defense and slipped the ball into the net for a 4-1 advantage. The visitors would strike again at the 73:44 mark when senior defender Jessica Broadhurst (Scarborough, Maine) notched a goal off a pass from Manchester.
Salve finished the scoring in the 75th minute when senior midfielder Maggie Borowicz (West Point, N.Y.) found the back of the net off a feed from Cuellar, her sixth point of the day.
RIC freshman goalkeeper Katherine Haley (Hope, RI) (0-3) made seven saves in the loss, while her counterpart, freshman Carly Pala (Milford, Conn.), made three stops in the victory.
