Birrell earns NSCAA All-New England selection

NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior forward Kaitlyn Birrell of the Salve Regina University women’s soccer team has been selected as a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2011 NCAA Women’s Division III All-New England Third Team. This is the second consecutive year that Birrell has been named to the NSCAA All-New England squad.

NEWPORT, R.I. – Senior Stacey Rutledge scored on a penalty kick with just 5:42 remaining in the second half to spark the Saint Joseph College women’s soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Salve Regina University during an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship quarterfinal contest at Reynolds Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Seahawks complete their season at 13-7-1 overall, while the Blue Jays improve to 12-6-2 on the year while advancing to the semifinals.

In addition to her offensive player of the year award, Birrell was named to the All-CCC first team. She was joined by senior Liz Galla who solidified an All-CCC second team selection, while sophomores Erin McCullough and Alyssa Roshong both earned All-CCC honorable mention.
