Bio

Villareal enters his eighth season as the head coach of the women's lacrosse team.

  • Villareal, retired as a U.S. Navy Commander and a veteran of over 22 years. 
  • Bill has led his team to the semifinals of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) postseason in three of the past five seasons. 
  • Villareal has had 18 players make an All-CCC team, and 82 student-athletes earn Academic All-CCC, including two Senior Scholar Athletes.
  • Prior to his Head Coach position of the women’s lacrosse program, he was the Assistant Coach for two seasons under Patrick Cooney for the Salve Regina University men’s lacrosse program where he helped lead the team to the 2013 CCC Quarterfinals and the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. 
  • Prior to coaching at the college level, he coached numerous HS All-League, All-State, All-American and Academic All-American players.  Bill was the Head Coach for the 2011 and 2012 Brine New England Regional Girls HS Underclassmen All-American team.  He was also an Assistant Coach for the Portsmouth Abbey School varsity boy’s lacrosse team where he helped lead to win two Eastern Independent League (EIL) Championships. 
  • Bill is a former defenseman at the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, RI and a former defenseman at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, MD with NCAA Division I tournament experience.        
  • Coach Villareal is also Salve Regina University’s Associate Athletic Director. 
  • Bill currently lives in Portsmouth, RI with his wife Ann.  They have four children: Ryan, a graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy; Caitlin, a graduate of Saint Anselm College; Maddie, a graduate of Salve Regina University; and Caroline, a graduate of Saint Anselm College. Bill and Ann also have two grandsons.
