Nor'easters prevail in wild shootout with Seahawks

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's lacrosse team broke its single-game scoring record with a 26-24 victory over Salve Regina in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon.
 
Nichole Carvalho paced the Nor'easters offensive with a career-best seven goals and an assist. Keara Dwyer scored five goals, while Casey Conwell and Molly Camelo added four tallies apiece. Kaity Dohery led the Seahawks with six goals.
 
The first half featured eight ties and five lead changes with neither team leading by more the three goals. UNE trailed 13-11 with 5:43 to go, but scored the final three of the half, including a goal by Anna Stowell with six seconds left to take a 14-13 advantage into the half.
 
The Nor'easters never trailed in the second half and built a 19-16 lead with 15:17 remaining. Salve Regina would tie the score at 19-19 after a man-up goal by Maddie Villareal with 10:22 left. Dwyer scored back-to-back for UNE to but the Nor'easters back in front as they extended the advantage to a game-high six goals with 3:44 left in regulation.
 
Salve Regina would not go down easily, scoring the final four goals of the game to make the score 26-24 with just 40 seconds left. Camelo won the ensuing draw control, her eighth of the afternoon, to end the comeback threat.
 
Oliva Carpenter was stellar on the draw for the UNE with a career-best 16 draw controls to go with a goal and three ground balls.
 
Christina Myers made 14 stops in goal for the Seahawks. Maritza Nary made six save for UNE to pick up her first victory of the year.
