Seahawks name five captains for 2019
NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University women's lacrosse head coach Bill Villareal is very excited to announce the team captains for the 2019 season. Each year the team selects senior and junior team captains. This season five different Seahawks will serve as captains.
Senior defensive player Kerri Beland (Attleboro, Mass.) was selected as a senior team captain following her selection as a 2018 junior team captain. Kerri is a two-sport athlete and team captain in both lacrosse and basketball. Kerri is an Accounting major and an Academic All-CCC selection.
Senior midfielder Lindsey Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) also was named a senior captain after receiving the honor her junior season. A highly respected double major (Secondary Education and History) she is also an Academic All-CCC selection.
Junior attack player Maddie Villareal (Portsmouth, R.I.) was selected as a junior team captain. Maddie is An Academic All-CCC selection and was a first-team All-CCC selection (attack position) last season after leading the Seahawks in scoring.
Junior defensive player Gabrielle Majenski (Hanson, Mass.) was selected as a junior team captain. Gabrielle is an Elementary Education major, an Academic All-CCC selection and was a third team All-CCC selection (defensive position) last season.
Junior attack player Kiley Anderson (East Greenwich, R.I.) was selected as a junior team captain. Kiley is a Business Administration Major. This talented attack player works extremely hard and is a very positive role model for all of her teammates.
"I'm very excited for the 2019 women's lacrosse season," said head coach Bill Villareal. "This team is extremely lucky to have these talented, dependable and mature student-athletes leading the charge. They all play an integral role in the rising success of this program where this team has made the conference post season play in three of the last four seasons. I look forward to having these outstanding players lead the team throughout the 2019 season!"
Salve Regina begins its season on Saturday, March 2, when it hosts Simmons University in a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m., at Gaudet Field.
