SEAHAWK WOMEN'S LACROSSE RESULTS

Western New England 15, Salve Regina 8
Middletown, R.I. – Gaudet Field
Tuesday, March 29, 2016

Summary
A 7-1 run spanning half-time helped the visiting Western New England University women's lacrosse team build a comfortable cushion en route to a 15-8 victory over Salve Regina University in the first Commonwealth Coast Conference match for both teams.

Series and Streaks
This was the 13th meeting between the Seahawks and the Golden Bears. The Golden Bears have now won 12 in a row over the Seahawks and own a 12-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – WNE senior Taylor Scialdone (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored seven times, handed out two assists, while fetching two groundballs and winning 10 draws.
2 – WNE senior Brooke Kumnick (Granbury, Conn.) scored five times and collected four groundballs.
3 – Salve Regina senior Abigail Tepper (Foxboro, Mass.) scored twice on six shots, grabbed four groundballs and caused a turnover.

Key Stat of the Game
The Golden Bears never trailed. The Seahawks were able to tie the game 2-2 after falling behind 2-0, but Western New England went on a run to extend it's lead and led comfortably the rest of the way.

Turning Point
The Seahawks tied the game 2-2 when Kaitlin Gillespie (Haddam, Conn.) scored her second goal in 1:27 with 18:27 left in the first half. After a save by netminder Katie Jones (Derry, N.H.),midfielder Lindsey Smith (North Attleboro, Mass.) collected a groundball and sprinted into the open field, galloping into the offensive end. She drove in and dished off a pass on an odd man break but the Seahawks turned it over, and with everyone for Salve racing to get into the play offensively, it left them open to the quick counter from the Golden Bears. Two quick passes up the field and it was an odd man break now for Western New England and Taylor Scialdone buried a spinning shot to make it 3-2 Western New England. It was a big swing of momentum, as the Golden Bears would go on to score four straight and seven of the next eight goals to take control of the game.
