MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – The Salve Regina University women's lacrosse team snapped a two game losing streak with a 13-5 victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday evening at Gaudet Field.

The Seahawks improve to 3-1 on home turf and stay alive for a playoff spot in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).

The Seahawks initially trailed 1-0 on a free position goal from Brandie Holland (Lynn, Mass.). The Leopards lead did not last long though. Kaitlin Gillespie (Haddam, Conn.) scored 28 seconds later to tie the game, shortly followed by Gina Tortorici (Deer Park, N.Y.) and a 2-1 lead at 24:45 of the first half.

The Seahawks would score three more times; building a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game.

The Seahawks dominated off the draw, winning 17 draw controls to just three by the Leopards. The edge on the draw gave the Seahawks time of possession leading to a 48-22 advantage in shots.

Gillespie would wind up scoring a hat-trick on a goal with 3:06 left in the second half to put the game on ice for the Seahawks.

Junior goaltender Katie Jones (Derry, N.H.) would pick up her second win between the pipes for the Seahawks while stopping five shots in the first half. Robyn Pacini (Stoneham, Mass.) finished with 11 saves in net for the Leopards.

Salve Regina improves to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in the CCC. The Leopards fall to 3-8 overall and 0-8 in conference play.

Next up the Seahawks will travel to UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference matchup on April 16 at 4 p.m. The Leopards will not play again until Monday April 20 when they host Massachusetts Maritime at 6 p.m.
