NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team earns the No. 4 seed in the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Championships and hosts No. 5 Becker College.

MARSHFIELD, MASS. - After posting a perfect 16-0-0 mark in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) regular season play, Endicott College earned the number one overall seed in the 2020 CHC postseason and will host a semifinal game on Saturday, February 29.

The Gulls will face the winner of the first round matchup between Salve Regina University (3-11-2) and Becker College (2-11-2) which is scheduled for Wednesday evening in Newport, R.I.

University of New England (10-4-2) will host Nichols College (5-9-2) in the other semifinal matchhup on Saturday.

HARRISVILLE, R.I. - The Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team defeated Nichols College 2-1 in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action Saturday night at June Rockwell Levy Rink.

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • This is the 14th straight season the Seahawks have been in the postseason and second competing in the CHC.
  • Salve Regina will try to reach the semifinals for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
  • Salve Regina's top three scorers are defensemen.
    • Amanda Fantasia (9g-11a-20p) ranks 7th in scoring and 1st in defensemen scoring for the CHC. Nationally she is ranked 7th in points per game for defensemen.
    • Maddie Cox (6g-7a-13p) ranks 3rd in the CHC in defensemen scoring.
    • Suzi Pearson (4g-9a-13p) also ranks 3rd in the CHC in defensemen scoring.
    • Only six schools in the nation have three or more defensemen in the top 50 for points per game for defense; Elmira, Nazareth, Oswego, Plattsburg, Salve Regina, and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
  • Madison Jalbert made the second most saves in the CHC (641) and ranks 15th in the nation in saves.

BECKER BITS

  • The top-line centered by sophomore Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) with freshmen wingers Katie Puumala (Framingham, Mass.) and Cassidhe Wozniak (Turners Falls, Mass.) have enjoyed success working together through 25 games this season.
  • Conway (24), Puumala (23), and Wozniak (18) hold the second, third, and fourth-most points in a season in program history through 25 games.
  • Sophomore defenseman Kylian Kelly (Shrewsbury, Mass.) just set a career program record by recording her 19th career point on defense while continuing to add to her season-long program record of 15 assists this season.
  • The Hawks goaltending has been a strength for Becker this season with freshmen Amber Lee (Nashua, N.H.) and Madelyn Morgan (Riverside, Calif.) producing two of the top three all-time best seasons in relation to goals against average in program history.
  • Lee started 13 games for the Hawks, going 3-9-1 with a 2.52 GAA and .926 save percentage. Morgan made 12 starts for Becker, going 4-6-2 with a 2.46 GAA and .936 save percentage.
  • Becker has one postseason win, coming during in its first season as a varisty program; a 1-0 victory over SUNY Canton in the 2016 CHC quarterfinals.
  • This is the fifth postseason game in program history for Becker.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina University and Becker College meet for the seventh time with the Seahawks holding the 3-2-1 edge all-time. The Seahawks won the season series over the Hawks, going 2-1-1 against Becker this season. This is the first-ever postseason meeting between the teamss.
