Summary
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Sophomore forward Jessie Scott (Barre, Vt.) netted her second goal of the game with 20 seconds remaining in overtime to give the University of New England a 5-4 comeback victory over the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team in Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) action Friday night.

Senior Moment
The Seahawks honored their three seniors before tonight's game. Angela Augusta (Windham, N.H.), Taylor Chisholm (Discovery Bay, Calif.), and Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) comprise the Seahawks Class of 2019 and were joined by their families on the ice for a special pregame ceremony.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks still own a 4-3-1 record in the all-time series however the Nor'easter snap a two-game losing streak.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. UNE sophomore Jessie Scott bookended the Nor'easters scoring, netting her first 42 seconds into the second period to tie the game 1-1, and her second, the game's final, with 20 left in overtime to give UNE the win.
  2. UNE sophomore Kyra Yu (Ogden, Utah) scored twice. First on the powerplay late in the second period to draw the Nor'easters within a goal, then again late in the third period to force overtime.
  3. Salve Regina junior Lexie Anderson (San Francisco, Calif.) scored to give the Seahawks a 4-3 lead in the third period and also handed out two assists on the night to lead the Seahawks scoring.

Turning Point
With the final seconds ticking away in the overtime period the Seahawks tried to clear the puck to center ice, but it was picked off by Jessie Scott. Scott skated down the right side towards the goal and used a backhand shot that snuck its way into the back of the net with just 20 seconds remaining in overtime.

Quick Hits

  • After falling behind 3-1, the Nor'easters scored four of the next five goals in the game.
  • It is the first time the Nor'easters have won a game this season in which they trailed after the first or second periods.
  • Angela Augusta got the scoring started for the Seahawks with her first of the season in the opening period. Taylor Chisholm and Rebecca Hasting (Boulder, Colo.) added goals in the second period.
  • Bella Crugnale (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tied the game 3-3 for UNE at 11:43 of the third only to have Lexie Anderson answer back for the Seahawks at 13:25.
  • Shortly after that Yu scored her second of the night to knot the game 4-4, capping a sequence of three goals scored in the span of 4:13.
  • Jennifer O'Connell made 26 saves in the loss to fall to 3-9-2 this season while Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) made 25 saves to improve to 13-6-1 between the pipes for UNE.
  • UNE held a 31-29 shot advantage.
  • Salve Regina went 0-for-2 on the powerplay while the Nor'easters went 1-for-2 with the man advantage.

Salve Regina (5-17-2, 2-8-1 CHC) and UNE (15-6-1, 5-3-1) will play again tomorrow in Biddeford, Maine, in the second game of this home-and-home series at 4 p.m.
