SEAHAWK WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY RESULTS
Norwich 5, Salve Regina 0
Middletown, Rhode Island - Howard Rink (St. George's)
Friday, November 4, 2016

Summary
The Norwich University women's ice hockey team had a 76-13 advantage in shots and scored three powerplay goals in a 5-0 victory over Salve Regina University in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action Friday night.

Series and Streaks
This was the 17th meeting between the teams. The Cadets own 11-3-3 record in the all-time series and have won six in a row over the Seahawks.

Three Stars of the Game
1 - Salve Regina sophomore Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) - stopped a career high 71 shots.
2 - Norwich freshman Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) - scored a powerplay goal in the second period to break a 0-0 tie and also handed out an assist on the final goal of the game.
3 - Norwich freshman Linnea Odbratt (Gothenburg, Sweden) - scored two goals.

Key Stat of the Game
The Cadets held a 76-13 advantage in shots, including a 35-5 advantage in the second period.

Turning Point
Despite being outshot the Seahawks defense had kept the game scoreless through the first 31 minutes because of spectacular goaltending by Jennifer O'Connell. The Cadets finally broke through however on their fourth powerplay of the night when Amanda Conway fired in a rebound shot. O'Connell had made an initial save in what was a 3-on-2 break for the Cadets but could not stop the second effort. Minutes later a turnover lead to another odd-man break for the Cadets and this time it was Sarah Schwenzfeier (Hingham, Mass.) finishing off the break for a 2-0 Cadet lead.

Quick Hits

  • O'Connell's 71 saves rank as the fourth best performance in Seahawks history. She ties with Kristin Suslowicz who stopped 71 shots against Sacred Heart on February 20, 2005. Suslowicz also owns the single-game record for most saves, stopping 93 versus Manhattanville on November 17, 2002.
  • The Cadets converted three of their nine powerplay opportunities while the Seahawks did not score in their eight chances with the man advantage.
  • Celeste Robert (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) made 13 saves in the shutout for the Cadets.
  • The Seahawks did not allow a goal in the first period for the third straight game.
