SEAHAWK WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY RESULTS
William Smith 1, Salve Regina 0
Middletown, Rhode Island - Howard Rink (St. George's)
Saturday, October 29, 2016

Summary
Rebecca Begley (Fremont, N.H.) scored an unassisted goal at 18:49 of the third period as William Smith College completed a sweep of Salve Regina University women's ice hockey in a two-game series at St. George's Howard Rink with a 1-0 final on Saturday.

Series and Streaks
William Smith sweeps the two-game season-opening series on the road.

Three Stars of the Game
1 - Heron sophomore junior Maggie Salmon (Medford, Mass.) netted her second straight win and first shutout of the season with 37 saves.
2 - Heron junior captain Rebecca Begley (Fremont, N.H.) had just entered the ice with the puck in her team's offensive zone when she picked it up at the right point and skated into the center for her wrist shot past Jennifer O'Connell (Marstons Mills, Mass.) who was shielded by a Seahawk defender.
3 - Seahawk senior Amanda Cronin (Medfield, Mass.) rang 15 shots on Salmon. Last night, the captain assisted on a Claire Lussier (Glenview, Ill.) goal for her 50th career point.

Key Stat of the Game
Opportunties were there for both sides, but each went scoreless on the power play - Salve Regina (0-5), William Smith (0-7).

Turning Point
The only goal of the game (Begley at 18:49 in the third), came with very little time for the Seahawks to respond. Salve Regina sophomore goaltender Jennifer O'Connell, who stopped a penalty shot by Krista Federow (Niagara Falls, Ontario) at 6:40 in the second period, was able to empty the net for the final 25 seconds for an extra Seahawk skater. Salve Regina managed two shots on Salmon
