MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Sophomore Briana D'Avolio (Reading, Mass.) scored all her team's goals for her first career hat trick as Salve Regina University women's ice hockey defeated University of Southern Maine, 3-1, in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at Howard Rink on the campus of St. George's.

Series and Streaks
The Huskies own a 14-10-1 mark in the all-time series, but the Seahawks have dominated most recently (6-1-1).

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina sophomore Briana D'Avolio (Reading, Mass.) - recorded her first career hat trick and her third three-point game of the season.
2 – Salve Regina junior Colleen Marcik (Madison, Conn.) - stopped 24 of 25 shots for her fourth victory of the season.
3 – Salve Regina senior Shelby Johnson (Sterling, Mass.) - assisted on the game-winner and later on D'Avolio's empty netter.

Key Stat of the Game
Southern Maine went 0-for-3 on power-play opportunities and Salve Regina went 0-for-4, but the Seahawks scored a shorthanded goal late in the second period which proved to be the game-winner.

Turning Point
D'Avolio's second goal of the game came during a penalty kill with Danielle Phalon (Stoneham, Mass.) feeding her teammate during a two-on-one rush.

  • Leading point scorers for both teams entering the game hail from Stoneham, Mass. - Salve Regina's Phalon and Southern Maine junior Lynn Kozlowski.
  • Phalon and D'Avolio had identical point totals (10g-7a-17p) after the go-ahead goal from the sophomore was assisted by the senior; D'Avolio's empty net goal in final minute puts her ahead for the team lead.
  • Huskies' freshman Britney Evangelista (North Smithfield, R.I.) stopped 18 of 20 shots in her eighth career start.
