NEWPORT, R.I. – The Salve Regina University women’s ice hockey team had eight players selected as members of the 2011-12 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s East All-Academic Team as announced by ECAC commissioner Rudy Keeling. Senior Kristen Aiello, sophomore Monika Borkowski, sophomore Shannon Coleman, junior Caitlyn Farragher, sophomore Natalie Madryga, junior Melanie Sherlock, junior Kelsey Talty, and senior Jen Thiesing each represented the Seahawks on the All-Academic Team.

NEWPORT, R.I. – The New England Hockey Writers have announced Salve Regina University junior Rachel Porter as a member of the 2011-12 Women’s Division II/III All-New England All-Star Team. Porter is one of just 12 players from the entire region to earn this honor, including six forwards, four defenseman and two goaltenders.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Junior Hannah Martini scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Castleton State women’s ice hockey team defeated Salve Regina by a score of 3-2 in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s East Championship tournament at St. George’s Ice Rink on Saturday night. The Spartans improve to 10-13-2 overall with the win, while the Seahawks end their season with an 11-10-5 record.

NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University junior Rachel Porter and senior Rebecca Simmons were both announced as members of the 2011-12 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Women’s East Ice Hockey All-Conference Team on Thursday evening. Porter was selected as a First Team All-ECAC East defenseman, while Simmons earned All-ECAC Honorable Mention at goalie.

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior Rachel Porter tied the program’s single season record for both goals and assists as the Salve Regina University women’s ice hockey team defeated Saint Michael’s, 6-1, in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East contest on Saturday at Cairns Arena. The Purple Knights finish the regular season 3-20-1 overall and 2-15-1 in the ECAC East, while the Seahawks head into the playoffs at 11-9-5 on the season and 7-7-4 during conference play.

The Seahawks, winners of the seven prior meetings, move to 10-8-5 overall and 6-6-4 in the conference as the Bison now sport a 6-15-2 record on the season and 3-11-2 in league play.

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Junior Melanie Sherlock scored with 6:21 remaining in the third period to lift the Salve Regina University women’s ice hockey team to an exciting 3-2 victory over Manhattanville during Senior Night at St. Georges Ice Rink on Friday night. The win marks the second all-time victory for the Seahawks over the Valiants, mproving their record to 10-8-4 overall and 6-6-3 in the conference. The loss was the first for Manhattanville in their five contests, dropping the Valiants to 11-8-3 on the season, including a 9-4-2 mark during conference play.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Goaltender Amy Zappen posted her second-straight shutout during Pink In The Rink weekend to lift the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey program to a 4-0 victory over the Seahawks of Salve Regina University Saturday afternoon at Thomas F. Sullivan Arena. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 15-6-0 overall on the season and to 10-5-0 within the ECAC Women's East. The Seahawks fall to 9-8-4 overall on the year and to 5-6-3 within conference play.

BOSTON, Mass. - The UMass Boston women's ice hockey team scored with just 88 seconds remaining in regulation to capture a 3-2 lead over the visiting Seahawks of Salve Regina University during an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast contest on Friday evening. It was the second consecutive 3-2 loss suffered by the Seahawks, who fall to 9-7-4 overall and 5-5-3 during conference play.

Porter scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season, and is currently ranked second in the conference in defenseman scoring (1.26 ppg)

With the tie, both teams remain deadlocked in ECAC East standings at 3-4-2. The visiting Seahawks now sit at 7-5-3 on the season, while the Pilgrims are 3-4-2 overall.
