Bio

Cori Hughes Cori Hughes begins her 11th season at the helm of the Salve Regina University women’s basketball program in 2017-18. In 10 years on the bench at Salve Regina, Hughes has led the Seahawks to seven winning seasons, three conference championships, and three NCAA Tournaments.

She has had at least 10 wins in each of her seasons at Salve Regina and owns an impressive 157-115 (.577) overall record during that time.

In 2010-2011, the Seahawks posted a 25-4 record, led by the eventual 2010-11 TCCC Coach of the Year. Salve Regina steamrolled through the conference schedule, posting a perfect 13-0 mark (16-0 including the playoffs), and earned the conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the last ten seasons.

In 2009-10, Hughes guided the Seahawks to a 16-10 overall mark and a 10-3 record in TCCC before falling to eventually conference champion UNE in the semifinals.

In Hughes’ second season in Newport, the Seahawks rolled to a 20-9 record, won their seventh TCCC Championship, and advanced to the NCAA’s for the fifth time in school history. The Seahawks won three consecutive road playoff contests to advance to 'The Big Dance.' Hughes laid the foundation for the Seahawks’ run to the NCAA Tournament one year earlier, when she helped the team post a 14-11 record in her first season at the end of the bench.

Coach Hughes was a four-year scholarship athlete at Boston University, where she played on the Terrier women’s basketball team. She became the first junior in program history to be elected captain in 1990.
