Foley, Gibbs finish with double-doubles for Scots

NEWPORT, R.I. (February 15, 2020) - Salve Regina University senior guard Torie Scorpio (Cranston, R.I.) made 10 of 26 field goal attempts and finished with a team-high 22 points as the Seahawks fell to the visiting Fighting Scots of Gordon College, 77-59, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

Fighting Scots senior guard Meghan Foley (Malden, Mass.) led all players with 27 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Foley made nine of 21 from the floor including three treys, and six of eight from the charity stripe. Foley continues to lead the league in scoring (24.3 ppg) while Scorpio ranks fifth (14.6 ppg) among CCC women's players.

The Seahawks made nine 3-pointers on the day, second-most this season to the 10 treys against Colby-Sawyer on November 23. Mary Rorke (Norton, Mass.) matched her career-best (for the fourth time) with five 3-pointers before finishing with 18 points. The Scots nailed eight triples with Foley and Serianna Anderson (Newcastle, Wash.) leading the way with three apiece.

The game was tied 36-all at halftime before Foley connected on three baskets in the third quarter during a 12-0 run. Salve Regina's best stretch of the game was a 16-5 run over 5:34 in the first half where the Seahawks went from trailing by five (16-11) to leading by six (27-21).

Senior Sarah Gibbs (Elizabethtown, Pa.) and freshman Olivia Gagnon (Pelham, N.H.) both finished with 10 points for Gordon. Gibbs had a game-high 16 boards including 11 on the offensive glass to reach the career 1,000 rebound milestone.

Gordon sweeps the season series and improves to 14-9 overall, 9-5 in CCC play. Salve Regina (3-20, 3-11 CCC) is tied with for sixth in the conference standings with two games remaining - at Curry on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.), and home against Wentworth next Saturday.
