BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University women's basketball team collected its fifth straight victory Tuesday evening with a 50-39 win over Salve Regina University, ending the Seahawks' win streak at four games.

After three minutes of play in the opening quarter, the only basket scored was by the Hawks' Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, Mass.). Salve quickly responded when Mary Rorke (Norton, Mass.) sank a three to put the Seahawks on the board. A three by Margarita Delaporta (Canton, Mass.) and two made free throws by Emily Yonych (Cheshire, Conn.) gave the Hawks the biggest lead of the first quarter at 13-5. The Hawks were able to keep the lead throughout the entirety of the first quarter.

The Hawks continued to hold on to the lead in the second quarter, with Salve not scoring over the first three minutes. Strong rebounding by the Hawks on both ends created a more comfortable point deficit throughout the quarter. RWU went into halftime leading Salve by 14, with the score of 24-10.

The 14-point cushion helped the Hawks keep their edge throughout the third quarter. It was needed since Salve held RWU to only six points in the quarter. After shooting 4-for-31 in the first half, the Seahawks went 7-for-22 from the field to help cut into the deficit. Going into the fourth, RWU saw its lead cut to six (30-24).

The Hawks struck first again in the final period on a layup by Jerahian. The Seahawks battled back late in the fourth period after a layup and free throw by Kerri Beland (Attleboro, Mass.) and layup by Liv Pierce (Tyngsboro, Mass.) created a six-point game with two minutes left to play. Despite the late push by Salve, Roger Williams kept the lead for the 50-39 victory.

Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) led the Hawks with 13 points to help the Hawks with the victory while Jerahian closely followed with 12 points. Leone also collected 11 rebounds and Jerahian collected six. Yonych contributed to the win leading with 13 rebounds and two blocks.

Rorke led the Seahawks with 11 points while Lauryn Becker (Hanover, Mass.) followed with eight and Beland with seven. Beland also collected 10 rebounds.
