NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University softball team, two-time defending Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) champions, seeks three trips to Beverly, Mass., to three-peat. The Seahawks finished their conference regular season with four straight defeats to slip to the No. 4 seed. That spot earns Salve Regina an immediate trip to the double-elimination phase and the Seahawks are in the same pod as No. 1 seed Endicott College. Salve Regina will play the winner of Game 1 (No. 5 University of New England v. No. 8 Gordon) on Saturday at the Gulls' softball complex.

LAST TIME OUT FOR SALVE REGINA - SALVE REGINA 5, MIT 2  - APRIL 24, 2018

  • Salve Regina put up three runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Amanda Riley (Barrington, N.H.), an RBI groundout by Holly Kathios (Pelham, N.H.) and a wild pitch which saw Riley cross the plate.
  • MIT immediately cut into its deficit in the bottom of the first as Jasmin Joseph (Woodland Hills, Calif.), who reached on a bunt single to begin the frame scored on a squeeze bunt by Amanda Lee (Saratoga, Calif.). An RBI single by Sierra Rosenzweig (Anchorage, Alaska) in the bottom of the second plated Michelle Wist (Cypress, Texas), after she reached on a fielding error, to make the score 3-2, but that is all of the offense that MIT would get in game one.
  • A two-run double by Riley in the top of the seventh gave the Seahawks a pair of insurance runs to boost their advantage to 5-2 heading into the bottom of the final frame.
  • Andi Nelson (Candia, N.H.) (9-5) returned to the circle in the seventh and got MIT out 1-2-3 to give Salve Regina the 5-2 win.
  • Nelson earned the win for Salve Regina and moved to 9-5 as she scattered four hits, allowed two runs (one earned), one walk and struck out eight. MIT starter Ravenne Nasser (Methuen, Mass.) took the loss (15-3) on five innings, four hits, three earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts.

CCC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott College posted a 16-2 CCC record (28-4 overall) to earn the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Regular-Season Championship and secure the top seed in the upcoming CCC Softball Championship Tournament.

The Gulls will be the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the first time since 2014 which is the same year they last captured a conference tournament championship.

Eastern Nazarene College had an incredible comeback season in 2018 and will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed after failing to qualify a year ago. The Lions finished the regular season with a 13-5 CCC (26-10 overall) record and were one of only two teams to beat Endicott in conference play this year.

Western New England University returns to the CCC Tournament as the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season at 12-6 in conference (20-16 overall), while two-time reigning CCC Tournament Champion Salve Regina University lands in the No. 4 spot with a CCC record of 11-7 (15-19 overall).

The top four teams will all be advanced directly into the double-elimination phase of the tournament and await the winners of the CCC Tournament Play-In Phase, which takes place on Friday, April 27.

The University of New England, this year's No. 5 seed with a 10-8 CCC record (17-19 overall), will host No. 8 seed Gordon College, which posted a 6-12 CCC record (10-21 overall), in one play-in game. No. 6 seed Curry College, owner of a 7-11 CCC record (14-20 overall), hosts No. 7 seed Nichols, which went 6-11-1 in the CCC (14-17-1 overall), in the other play-in. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m. starts.

After Friday's play-in phase, the tournament will enter a double-elimination format. Four games will be played on Saturday, April 28, with Endicott and Eastern Nazarene each hosting two games. The Endicott grouping will start play at noon and the Eastern Nazarene set will start at 1 p.m. The second weekend of the tournament will be at Endicott on Friday and Saturday. Four games will be played on Friday, May 4 followed by at least two games, including the championship game, on Saturday, May 5.

The winner of the 2018 CCC Softball Tournament will be named the CCC Tournament Champion and will earn the league's automatic qualifier into the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament.
