Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina University senior pitcher Kelsey Boarman (No. Dighton, Mass.) shutout Endicott College on five hits and infielder Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) scored the game's only run as the Seahawks defeated the Gulls, 1-0, in Game 5 of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Softball Championships on Saturday at Toppa Field.

The league's pitcher of the year (Boarman) and player of the year (Galeazzi) helped the defending champions and top seed advance in the tournament's winner's bracket. Salve Regina (23-11) will host a six-team event on Friday, May 5, where the Seahawks will matchup with No. 2 seed Western New England University (4 p.m.) which also won its game today in Springfield, Mass.

No. 4 seed Endicott (21-15) had earlier defeated No. 8 seed Gordon College, 8-3, to advance to play No. 1 seed Salve Regina. The Scots (15-21) and Gulls take their first losses in the double-elimination tournament to Friday at Toppa Field in the loser's bracket where they will face No. 3 seed Roger Williams University (10 a.m.) and No. 7 seed Curry College (12 p.m.), respectively. The winners of the two early games will meet at 2 p.m. on Toppa Field for the right to advance to Saturday's championship round.

Game 3
#4 Endicott 8, #8 Gordon 3
After stranding runners at second and third in their first at-bat, the Gulls scored in each of the following five frames. Gordon College freshman starting pitcher Caitlin Catalanotto (Kingston, N.H.) got out of the first-inning jam before the first three Gulls reached base against her in the second. Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.) opened the frame with a single and reached third on a sac bunt by Danielle Stratton (Agawam, Mass.). The Gulls shortstop also reached base on a fielding error.

KK Palmerino (Glenmont, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice that drove in the game's first run. After Catalanotto got a strikeout, Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I.) produced a run-scoring sacrifice bunt.

Gordon senior Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.) doubled in the first run for the Scots in the top of the third. Endicott added single runs in its third and fourth innings to take a 4-1 lead.

Endicott rightfielder Julia McNeil (Smithtown, N.Y.) reached base four times, scoring twice, on two basehits (double, single) and two bases on balls. Gordon catcher Laura Bieren (Groton, Mass.) went three-for-three at the plate with a trio of singles.

Game 5
#1 Salve Regina 1, #4 Endicott 0
Boarman faced her biggest threat in the fourth inning when she allowed three hits, including a leadoff single to McNeil. Galeazzi fielded a grounder to second from the next batter and turned it into a double play. Two batters later the Gulls had runners at second and third (the only time they reached third in the game) with two outs. Boarman ended the inning with a grounder to shortstop Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Conn.).

Salve Regina had only four hits in the game and two of them came in the third inning to produce a run. Galeazzi led off with a bunt single, stole second and advanced to third with one out. After an infield pop up, Seahawk right fielder Amanda Riley (Barrington, N.H.) stroked a two-out single through the left side to drive in Galeazzi.

Stratton stole another base to total four thefts on the day.

Salve Regina has won five straight games in CCC postseason play. The Seahawks are 3-0 against the Gulls this season and have won five straight and seven of the last eight meetings. Endicott leads the all-time series, 31-15.
