NEWPORT, R.I. - Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) softball champion, Salve Regina University, will start its NCAA tournament journey against No. 22 Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in the regional hosted by three-time defending national champion, Tufts University. The first games are scheduled for Friday, May 13.

The fourth team in the Medford, Mass., regional is New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) champion, Becker College.

The Seahawks earned the conference's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Championships after winning the CCC Championship on Saturday (May 7). After a 14-4 league record (24-16 overall) earned Salve Regina the No. 3 seed in the conference championships, the Seahawks did not lose a game in tournament play (4-0), culminating in a 2-0 win in the CCC title game against Roger Williams University.

The double-elimination tournament will continue with three games on Saturday. On Sunday, one game with an if-necessary game to follow will decide the regional champion.

NCAA Division III Softball Championship Bracket


The teams will be playing to advance to one of eight best two-out-of-three Super Regionals where the winner will move on to the Division III Finals in Salem, Virginia May 26-31.

The three-time defending NCAA champion (2013-15) Jumbos are making their 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including their fifth in a row. Tufts has a 57-25 overall record in NCAA action, and has won four straight NCAA Regionals and six overall (2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2009, 2000).

The Jumbos were the runner-up to Williams College at the NESCAC Championship over the weekend. WPI won the NEWMAC for its first conference crown since 1991. The Engineers also set a new school record for wins in a single season. Salve Regina captured the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship for the fifth time in its history. Becker is the New England Collegiate Conference champion, its second league crown since winning the North Atlantic Conference Championship in 2001.
