WENHAM, Mass.—Salve Regina handed Gordon softball its first two home losses of the season in a CCC doubleheader on Monday afternoon. The Seahawks blanked the Fighting Scots 6-0 in the first game, before completing the sweep with a 9-2 victory in the nightcap.

The offenses were cool to start game one, as starting pitchers Skylar Bareford (Stonington, Conn.) and Salve Regina's Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) dueled it out on the mound. Bareford was able to hold the Seahawks' to one hit through two innings, while Parry carried a perfect game into the fourth.

Salve Regina jumped on the scoreboard first shortstop Marissa Simpson's (Brimfield, Mass.) solo home run to dead center, which led off the top of the third. The Seahawks padded their lead in the next inning though, with RBI singles by Kara O'Riley (Acton, Mass.) and Lauren Fountain (Cheshire, Conn.) to open up a 4-0 lead entering the final half of the game.

Marissa Meenan (Wayne, Pa.) ended Parry's bid at perfection in the bottom of the fourth, but the Scots would only muster another two hits the rest of the way. The Seahawks added two more runs in the top of the seventh to put plenty of distance between them and the Scots.

Parry improved to 5-3 in 2014, striking out an astounding 13 batters in seven innings of work. Simpson had a great game at the plate with the home run and a double.

Game Two

The Seahawks threatened early in the second game, tallying one run on an RBI-single by catcher Genevieve Benoit (Swampscott, Mass.) in the first. However, neither team would challenge the pitching until the top half of the fifth inning.

Salve Regina (10-10) broke open the game with six runs in the fifth. The Seahawks took advantage of a handful of errors in the field committed by the Fighting Scots, as well as a couple passed balls to move runners into scoring position. Only two of the six runs scored in the inning was by hit or sacrifice.

The Seahawks pushed their lead to nine runs in the top of the sixth inning on a wild pitch and an RBI grounder in the infield.

Down to its final out of the game, freshman Stephanie Zaloom (Albany, N.Y.) provided Gordon's only run-scoring hit of the day, with a double to the centerfield wall.

Dominique Burnham (Scarborough, Maine) pitched six innings to get the win for the Seahawks, while Bareford dropped to 4-10 on the season as a starter.

Gordon falls to 5-11 on the season and 2-4 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Scots will look to rebound on Wednesday at Western New England, which currently sits one game ahead of Gordon in the conference standings. Salve Regina evens its overall record at 10-10 and moves into third place with an 8-2 CCC mark.
