NEWPORT, R.I. (October 27, 2020) -- Senior Aidan Lynch (Little Silver, N.J.) has been appointed captain of the Salve Regina men's cross country team for the 2020-2021 season. Lynch is an incumbent captain, having served on the leadership team with Chandler Da Cruz '20 (Middletown, R.I.) last fall.

Lynch leads a smaller-than-usual training group on the men's side this fall, with several teammates having opted not to train due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. He still serves as a group leader and as the primary contact for the harriers who are practicing. The team will not compete this fall due to the pandemic.

"Aidan is a natural leader,' said head coach Rob McGuinness. "Some student-athletes are a clear fit for the role of captain, and Aidan is definitely one of them. He's been one of our top guys since day one, and we've been very fortunate to have him on our team for the last four years."

Lynch has appeared in 20 cross country meets for Salve Regina and represented the Seahawks in three NCAA New England Division III Championships. He was part of the lineup that brought the men's team back-to-back invitational victories in 2017, ending a decades-long winless drought for the program. Lynch was the team's Rookie of the Year in 2017 and its Runner of the Year in 2018. His collegiate bests are 17:40 for 5K and 28:32 for 8K.
