WENHAM, Mass. - Sophomore Billy Martin (West Islip, N.Y.) and junior Sean Hughes (Old Saybrook, Conn.) led Salve Regina to a seventh place finish in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on Saturday.

Martin placed 20th and Hughes was 26th in the 8,000-meter trail race. Martin crossed the finish line at 28:46, while Hughes finished at 29:08 to lead the scoring for the Seahawks. Wet, muddy course conditions slowed times throughout the 125-man field.

Freshmen Dave Napierkowski (Cheshire, Conn.) and Austin Sattler (Guilford, Conn.) and junior Slater Roosa (Woodbury, Conn.) rounded out the scoring five for Salve Regina, finishing at 30:28, 30:45 and 30:59. Freshmen Andrew Sardelli (Hope Valley, R.I.) and John Lutz (Ringwood, N.J.) were the sixth and seventh men at 31:00 and 31:06.

"This was a challenging day. Two of our regular contributors were injured during the race, and we slipped a few spots lower in the team scoring," said head coach Rob McGuinness. "It certainly wasn't the outcome that we expected, but the guys never gave up. We'll be all the more motivated to climb back up the ranks in the CCC next season."

Roger Williams University took four of the top 10 spots and placed their entire top seven in the top 15 to take the team title with a score of 26 points. (The Hawks have now won the CCC championship 14 years in a row.) Wentworth Institute of Technology finished second with 55 points, and the University of New England was third with 72. Roger Williams freshman Tim McGowan won the individual title with a time of 27:25.
