Newfield, White combine for all three Seahawk points

WESTON, Mass. (April 2, 2019) -– Sophomores Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) and Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) each won in singles and doubles to help lift the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team to a 6-3 win over Salve Regina in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday night.

With the win the Leopards improve to 6-7 overall and 1-1 in CCC play while the Seahawks fall to 0-6 (0-2). The six wins for the Black & Gold surpass last year's total of five.

Maki and sophomore Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) gave Wentworth a 1-0 lead with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles over Michael Salazar (Carmel, N.Y.) and Alex Azary (Shelton, Conn.). The Leopards increased their lead to 2-0 when junior Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) teamed up to defeat D.J. Bisaillon (Watertown, Conn.) and Trevor Jones (South Hamilton, Mass.). Salve Regina picked up its first point of the match when Matthew Newfield (Clinton, Conn.) and Aaron White (Falmouth, Mass.) beat sophomore Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) and junior Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.), 8-2, at No. 2.

Chet defeated Kevin Hunt (Higganum, Conn.), 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6 while Maki won at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2, over Salazar to give the hosts a 4-1 lead. Hall then clinched the match for Wentworth when he defeated Jones, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1. Newfield defeated Maus, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4, while White took a 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 win over Mularski at No. 3. North completed the match with a three-set win over Bisaillon. After dropping the first set, 4-6, North forced a third set with a 7-5 win and carried that momentum into a 10-8 third set win.
