Hawks down Seahawks in CCC opener

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University men's tennis team took down Salve Regina University 9-0 in both teams' first Commonwealth Coast Conference match of the season.

The Hawks powered their way to the win, losing only nine games throughout the day which were all at singles. RWU notched three straight 8-0 wins at doubles for the first time all year.

Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) and Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) won their matchup against Donovan Gangewere (Exton, Pa.) and Jack Lawlor (York, Maine), while Fred Clifford (Duxbury, Mass.) and Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) rolled past Kevin Brocks (White Plains, N.Y.) and D.J. Bisaillon (Watertown, Conn.). Andrew Amarone (North Haven, Conn.) and Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) collected the third doubles win, defeating Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.).

At singles, Rosenberg and Spoor each won their at #3 and #4, respectively defeating Masse and Brocks by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores. Laboissonniere and Stratton Stilianos each notched 6-0, 6-1 wins, with Laboissonniere beating Lawlor at #1 and Stilianos clinching the #5 win against Bisaillon. Clifford won the #2 battle over Gangewere, 6-2, 6-0, while Eric Bott (Bethel, Conn.) earned the win at #6 over Gingras by the same score.

Roger Williams (6-2, 1-0 CCC) will travel to Nichols on Saturday, while Salve Regina (2-4, 0-1) plays its second match as part of a four-match, four-day stretch tomorrow at Emerson.
