Corsairs come to Newport to clip Seahawks

NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University sophomore Mike Gallerani (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.) paired for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles, but visiting UMass Dartmouth took eight other matches for an 8-1 non-league men's tennis victory over the Seahawks.

The Corsairs took their first point when Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Jonathan Reagan (Franklin, Mass.) won the final six games at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 final. Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, Mass.) and Dan Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) did not drop a game in a very competitive match at No. 1 doubles with sophomore Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) and junior Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.).

Bejtlich, Chouinard, Lawton, and Reagan carried their doubles success onto the singles courts, all winning in straight sets. Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, Mass.) won at No. 1 singles, dropping just one game, while Patrick Lewis (Dorchester, Mass.) swept two sets for a win at No. 3 singles.

Salve Regina (0-8) returns to action on Saturday at Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Endicott College.
