SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS

Seahawks secure home playoff match with 8-1 win over Colonels

NEWPORT, R.I. - Seniors Andrew Martin [Glastonbury, Conn.] and Steve Masso [No. Scituate, R.I.] paired for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles to lead Salve Regina University men's tennis to an 8-1 win over Curry College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match in Newport.

The Seahawks swept the doubles matches including Zachary Rosenfeld [Easton, Conn.] and Chad Strong [San Diego, Calif.] at No. 2, and Brian Castrichini [Winchester, Mass.] and Aaron Isch [Tolland, Conn.] at No. 3.

Masso and Isch had the quickest results in singles play, dropping just one game total at the No. 2 and No. 5 singles positions. Strong and Rosenfeld were also straight-set winners while Martin needed a third-set tiebreak to set down Colonel freshman Gregory Kirschner [Williston Park, N.Y.] at No. 1 singles.

Curry senior Ben Radzicki [Sterling, Mass.] avoided the shutout while rallying from a 5-2 first-set deficit to win in straight sets.

With the win, Salve Regina (9-10; 7-3 TCCC) secured a home playoff match for Monday's quarterfinal round. A victory over Eastern Nazarene in its final regular season match tomorrow at home would give Salve Regina the No. 3 seed in the TCCC tournament. Curry (7-9; 5-5 TCCC) finishes its regular season at Nichols College on Saturday. The Colonels have also earned a spot in the upcoming playoffs while currently stuck in a tie with Endicott and Wentworth.
