Nichols doubles up Salve Regina, 6-3

NEWPORT, R.I. - Freshmen Justin Deluca [Mashpee, Mass.] and Tony Ramsdell [Gardner, Mass.] posted lopsided singles victories (Nos. 1 and 6, respectively) to lead visiting Nichols College to a 6-3 victory over Salve Regina University in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

 

Ramsdell contributed to the first Bison point with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles with partner Steve Carella [Rocky Hill, Conn.].

 

Salve Regina (4-8; 2-1 TCCC) took No. 1 doubles with senior captains Andrew Martin [Glastonbury, Conn.] and Steve Masso [No. Scituate, R.I.] cruising to an 8-2 decision.

 

Dave Drucker [Bellmore, N.Y.] and Eliot Wuhrmann [Fontainbleau, France] held serve for an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles to give Nichols (9-4; 4-0 TCCC) a 2-1 edge heading into singles. Drucker followed with a straight-set win at No. 2 singles.

 

Salve Regina freshman Chad Strong [San Diego, Calif.] won his fifth straight singles match with a straight-set triumph at No. 4 singles while fellow frosh Aaron Isch [Tolland, Conn.] captured the Seahawks' final point with his win at No. 5 singles.

 

Salve Regina plays at defending champion and league-leading Roger Williams University on Wednesday; Nichols travels to Boston to play against Wentworth on Wednesday.
