NEWPORT, R.I. - The Salve Regina University men's soccer team hosts Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30 p.m. on Brother Reynolds Field in Newport, R.I., on Wednesday, September 10, in a non-conference matchup.

Salve Regina University men's soccer scored a 1-0 over Newbury College. Only 36 seconds after halftime, junior Evan MacDonald scored for the Seahawks providing all the offense they needed in their victory over the Nighthawks

SEAHAWKS NOTES FROM THE NEST

  • Seniors Richie Leister, Matthew O'Donnell, and junior Noah Medeiros serve as tri-captains for the 2018 Seahawks.
  • Salve Regina has won three games in a row.
  • MacDonald scored twice and assisted on two goals last week, helping to earn him Offensive Player of the Week in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC).
  • MacDonald leads the CCC in assists (4) and points (8) on the season.
  • The Seahawks are 4-4-2 on this date in program history, last winning in 2016 versus Suffolk (5-0) in Newport, R.I.

ABOUT THE LIONS

  • The Lions enter today's contest 0-3-0 after suffering a 3-1 loss at the hands of Regis College this past weekend.
  • This is the first season for the Lions in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) after spending 26 years in the CCC with the Seahawks.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Salve Regina has won 23 straight over the Lions dating back to 1996. Last season five different Seahawks scored in a 5-1 victory in Quincy, Mass. Matthew O'Donnell opened the scoring, but the match was tied 1-1 at half. In the second, the Seahawks scored four unanswered from John Julian, PJ Criscione, Owen Stevenson, and Jarred Warren to secure the victory.
