Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's soccer improved to 2-0 on the season with only its second ever victory over Bridgewater State University, and its first triumph over the Bears in Newport. With a red card issued in the first three minutes, the Seahawks capitalized for an early 1-0 lead when senior captain Matthew O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) converted the penalty kick to the lower left corner.

Soon after classmate John Julian (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) scored his second goal of the season, with an assist from Donald Igo (Needham, Mass.), for a 2-0 lead.

Series and Streaks
Salve Regina wins its second straight in the series after starting 0-6 in its all-time meetings with Bridgewater State. The first five meetings occurred between 1983 and 1990, before the series resumed in 2016 with the Bears winning 2-0 in Newport. The Seahawks were 3-0 winners in Bridgewater, Mass., last season.

  1. Salve Regina junior midfielder Evan MacDonald (Candia, N.H.) assisted on two goals and converted a second-half penalty kick. He has six points in two games.
  2. Salve Regina senior midfielder Matthew O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) converted the first penalty kick of the game to score his first goal of the season; assisted on John Julian's goal.
  3. Salve Regina freshman Matthew Warshaw (Madison, N.J.) came off the bench in both halves to ignite several rushes. He scored his first career goal when he tapped in a cross from senior teammate Nathaniel Crocker (Hallowell, Maine).

Key Stat of the Game
The visitors played with a full squad for less than three minutes. A first-half red card left Bridgewater State University with fewer than 11 players on the field the rest of the game; a second-half red card dropped them to nine on the field.
