NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University junior Jordan Elster (Sutton, Mass.) adds a selection to the Scholar All-America team to his accolades as recently announced by the United Soccer Coaches on Friday.

This is the first time a Seahawk has earned a selection to an All-America team. Elster earned all-region honors as an athlete and a scholar. He is the only junior back on either the first or second team, and one of only two students from a New England hometown.

Elster, a right back, scored one goal and assisted on two others; his lone goal was a game-winner against UMass Dartmouth (Sept. 13).

A Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) first team performer, Elster draws the admiration of his teammates and head coach Craig O'Rourke II.

"I'm not sure that any words can adequately describe my elation over hearing that Jordan has been named a Scholar All-American. I've always considered the moniker of 'All-American' to be the highest possible distinguishment that a student-athlete can garner during their time in college and with this award, Jordan becomes the first ever All-American in the history of our program. I've spoken many times about the commitment and dedication that it takes for a student-athlete to be named Academic All-Conference or even Academic or Scholar All-Region as we have had many earn these awards in the past. But Jordan's level of commitment really is something special … he is literally in the gym and in the library every day. He's a Pell Honors scholar and has one of the most demanding course loads on our roster and yet he still maintains one of the highest GPAs on our team. I just want his commitment to rub off on his teammates so that we, as a program, can look to take that next big step forward and get back to competing on the national stage in the NCAAs. But for now, I could not be happier for Jordan to gain this level of recognition!"
