NEWPORT, R.I. - For the fifth time in seven seasons the Salve Regina University men's soccer team has been announced as recipient of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award.

In order to qualify for the award, teams are required to record a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

"I'm very happy to see our program honored with this national award again," said Salve Regina head coach Craig O'Rourke II. "We did it this year by setting a program record with a cumulative team GPA of 3.24.  So I'm pleased with our demonstrated commitment in the classroom. I think our players know that this award, and vicarious demonstrated team-wide academic commitment, is a major piece of our recruiting in that we can point to the degree of academic excellence that we have been able to maintain these last few years and show the value of a Salve Regina education."

2016 graduate Joseph Pate (Smithfield, R.I.) earned the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Senior Scholar-Athlete last season, in addition to CoSIDA Academic All-District™ during the 2015 campaign.
