No luck in OT for Salve Regina; Endicott wins 1-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Jesse Martinez (Walpole, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal as the Endicott men's soccer team celebrated an overtime victory, 1-0, versus the visiting Salve Regina Seahawks Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest.

A scoreless battle in regulation led to the Gulls' fourth overtime appearance this season.

Martinez' golden goal came in the 93rd minute as he collected freshman forward Evan Couchot's (Mason, Ohio) rebounded shot and redirected it into the back right of the net to send the Gulls soaring onto the field in celebration.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls are now 1-1-2 in overtime so far this season and 1-1 at home this season in extra time.
  • Couchot picked up his second assist of the season, while Martinez notched his first career goal.
  • The Gulls hold a 10-6-3 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to prior to 2001.
  • Senior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) made five saves to improve to 7-3-2, (4-1-0 CCC) on the season.
  • Weinstein moved into third on the program's all-time list in career saves, as he surpassed Austin Peluso with 138 career saves.
  • The Gulls are ranked No. 9 in the New England region in the latest NSCAA DIII October 4 Poll.

FOR THE FOES

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) stopped four shots as he fell to 1-7-1 in net.
  • The Seahawks are 0-2-1 in overtime this season.
  • Senior forward Nolan Brady (Needham, Mass.) paced the squad with three shots, while junior back Jared Warren (Georgetown, Mass.) had a team-high two shots on goal.

NOTES
The Gulls and Seahawks tied 1-1 in double overtime in the most recent meeting before today on 10/24/15 in Newport, R.I.

Endicott (7-3-2, 4-1-0 CCC) travels to face Daniel Webster on Tuesday, October 11 at 3:30 p.m. in non-conference action as the beginning of a three-match road stint.
Salve Regina (2-8-1, 0-3-1 CCC) hosts Eastern Nazarene on Monday, October 10 at 3 p.m. in a rescheduled match from October 1.
