Marino tallies for Seahawks in loss

WENHAM, Mass. — Midfielders Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) and Josh Cochran (Bellville, Ohio) combined for three goals and two assists in a 3-1 win over visiting Salve Regina on White Out Saturday at the Brigham Complex turf. Cole and Cochran each added a goal over the final 20 minutes to break open a close game and secure Gordon's first Commonwealth Coast Conference win of 2015.

Cole got the home crowd on his side early, as the defending offensive player of the year in the conference unloaded on a ball with just 1:26 off the clock in the first. Cochran found space around midfield and sent a through ball up the seam to Cole. In stride, Cole got ahead of his mark and blasted a shot into the left corner for the 1-0 advantage.

Salve was unfazed by the early deficit and pressured Gordon for a majority of the next 10 minutes. The persistence led to a corner from Evan Dudney (North Andover, Mass.), who sent a perfect ball acros the face of the goal to the feet of Kyle Knoth (East Islip, N.Y.). Knoth unleashed a low drive that was stopped by Josh Spoohour (Greencastle, Pa.), but Mark Marino (Smithfield, R.I.) finished off the loose ball for the equalizer.

The Fighting Scots looked to have the go-ahead right out of the halftime break when freshman Tyler Modzeleski (Cazenovia, N.Y.) used his strength to get a fast-break chance. The striker drove a ball the right side, but freshman keeper Michael Payan (Fort Lee, N.J.) made a sliding save to keep things tied.

Cochran finally broke through Salve's defense in the 74th minute off a corner kick for the Scots. Cole curled around in the right corner and sent a ball on top of the 18 to Cochran, who was running from center field. The sophomore one-timed a low ball that nicked off a defender's ankle and into the left corner of the goal.

Cole spoiled the home crowd with a breakaway goal with mere seconds still on the clock.

Spoonhour and Payan both had two saves for their respective teams.

Gordon (4-2) continues a tough stretch of games on Tuesday as No. 19 Eastern Connecticut comes to Wenham for a match on the Quad. Salve Regina (2-5-1) also returns to non-conference action when they host WPI on Wednesday.
