AMHERST, Mass. – One hundred and twenty-eight senior men's lacrosse student-athletes have earned selection to the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Academic All-New England teams.
Mike Mongelli (Roslyn, N.Y.) of the Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team earns this honor and will play in the All-Division NEILA Senior All-Star Game this Friday, May 31, at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I.
Mongelli, a team captain in his final season at Salve Regina, led all Seahawks defensemen with 60 groundballs, a team-high 34 caused turnovers, and also scored eight goals while handing out three assists. Mongelli graduated with a degree in Accounting.
Members of the team are nominated by head coaches in Divisions 1, 2 and 3, and are comprised of student-athletes who have excelled both in the classroom and on the field over the course of their men's lacrosse career.
This year saw an increase of 36 student-athletes who meet the criteria, which requires that nominees must have senior standing, a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, and be a significant enough player that he was nominated for at least All-Conference selection.
