Nor'easters edge Seahawks 16-14

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's lacrosse team earned its first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory of the season, 16-14, over Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
 
The Nor'easters built their largest lead of the day at 13-7 with 10:53 remaining in the third quarter. Salve Regina trimmed the deficit down to four at 14-10 at the break. The Seahawks scored three quick goals, two by Mike Mongelli, to start the final period and cut the lead to one at 14-13.
 
Jason Erwin and Alec Beveridge each scored for UNE to bring the cushion back to 16-13 with just over four minutes left to play. The Seahawks would add a late man-up goal as UNE was able to push past two penalties in the final minute of play to hold on for the win.
 
Nine different players scored for the Nor'easters led by Mitch Mullin with four goals. Jared Hall, Alex Zadworny, Erwin, and Beveridge each had two goals. Bozek, Zadworny, and Adam Race all added two assists.
 
Patrick Leary was one of 10 scorers for the Seahawks, leading the way with three goals and three assists. Rich Gneiding and Mongelli added two markers each.
 
Mike Sullivan made 14 saves for Salve Regina. Sam MacKenzie backstopped the Nor'easter victory with 10 saves.
