Trio of Seahawks to captain men's lacrosse

Newport, R.I. – Salve Regina men's lacrosse head coach Patrick Cooney has announced that midfielder Dakotah Jones (Mattapoisett, Mass.), defenseman Mike Mongelli (Roslyn, N.Y.)  and midfielder Ethan Robson (Lincoln, R.I.) have been selected to lead the Seahawks as captains for the 2019 season.

"Everyone is excited to have these three outstanding men, captain the team," said coach Cooney.  "In the classroom and on the field, they have demonstrated a level of commitment and achievement that we have come to expect in our captains, as voted on by their peers." 

Dakotah Jones (Mattapoisett, Mass.) will graduate this May with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.  He has interned at Southeast Orthodontics and aspires to work in Dentistry.  Dakotah has been a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  Jones, a defensive midfielder, has played in 24 games in two years.  Dakotah's mother, Lisa Antonelli-Jones is a Salve Regina graduate. 

Mike Mongelli (Roslyn, N.Y.) will graduate this May with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, and minor in Business Administration.  He has interned at Grey Global Advertising and Island Federal Credit Union, while currently working at Bardorf and Bardorf PC in Newport.  He will pursue Accounting and Finance in the future.  Mongelli has been a multi-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  He is a two-time All-CCC Academic team member. Mongelli was selected All-CCC 3rd team LSM in 2018, leading the conference with 49 caused turnovers and 95 ground balls from a defenseman.  He has appeared in 53 games the last three years. Michael's brother, Marco Mongelli is a Salve Regina Class of 2021 member and also plays lacrosse for the Seahawks.

Ethan Robson (Lincoln, R.I.), a junior, is working toward a bachelor's degree in Financial Management.  He has interned at logistics firm JF Moran specializing in international importing and exporting.  Ethan is a current member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).  Robson was selected All-CCC 3rd team Midfield in 2018, scoring 19 goals and handing out eight assists.  He has appeared in 35 games the last two years.

The captains stated, "We are excited to build upon our previous season with a lot of young players and a new look for the program. We are looking to compete within our conference and are ultimately looking to win a championship, the first for Salve Regina lacrosse. A combination of youth and senior leadership will help us reach that goal. As always, we will compete with the grit and determination needed to progress our record from last season."

Jones, Mongelli, Robson, and the rest of Seahawks will kick off the 2019 season at home on Gaudet Field versus Clark on February 16 at 1 p.m.
