MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - After falling behind early visiting Western New England University retook the lead and never looked back, defeating the Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team 14-8 to remain perfect in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play.

  1. WNE junior Hunter Cocks (Walden, N,Y.) won 18 faceoffs, collecting 10 groundballs, and scored twice.
  2. Salve Regina senior Matt D'Amore (Duxbury, Mass.) made 14 saves to fall to 10-5 in net for the Seahawks.
  3. WNE senior Steven Kerr (Hopkinton, Mass.) made eight saves in net for the visitors.

Turning Point
After falling behind 3-1 the Golden Bears responded with a 9-1 scoring run to take the lead. After injury forced the goalie Kerr to leave the game the Seahawks went on a 3-0 run to inch closer. The teams exchanged goals early in the fourth quarter and the Seahawks had drawn within three after Danny McDermott (Franklin, Mass.) netted his first goal of the season. However on the ensuing faceoff, Cocks won it cleanly for WNE and raced up the field and scored to steal momentum back for the visitors. The Golden Bears ended the game on a 3-0 run to wrap up the victory.

  • Sean McCusker (Northport, N.Y.) came on in relief of Kerr in the third quarter and made one save for the Golden Bears.
