Summary
MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - A fast start helps the Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team hang on late to defeat visiting Gordon College 14-12 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup Wednesday evening.

The Fighting Scots own a 17-8 record all-time however the Seahawks have won three in a row and five of the last seven meetings.

  1. Salve Regina senior Andrew Fera (Cranston, R.I.) scored four times and handed out two assists.
  2. Salve Regina freshman Pat Leary (Wakefield, Mass.) scored four times and had an assist.
  3. Salve Regina senior Matt D'Amore (Duxbury, Mass.) came up with many timely saves to help preserve a one-goal lead for the Seahawks late. He made 10 total stops and improves to 10-4 in net for the Seahawks.

Key Stat of the Game
The Scots could never made a significant run to take the lead, only scored back-to-back goals three times in the game after falling behind 5-0, routinely exchanging scores with the Seahawks anytime they inched within a goal.

Turning Point
Holding a two-goal lead late in the third quarter the Seahawks were called for two penalties which gave the Scots three minutes of man-up time. Tytus Moen (Agawam, Mass.) scored to draw the Scots within one at the end of the third quarter, but a turnover gave the ball back to Salve Regina and they killed out the remaining time of the locked in penalty. It had been a major opportunity for the Scots to take control of the game, instead Andrew Fera scored his fourth of the night shortly after play returned to even strength to reestablish a two-goal differential.

Quick Hits

  • The Scots routinely came within a single goal and had chances ot tie the game, but could never get over the hump. Pat Leary scored his fourth and final goal with 61 seconds remaining to seal the game for the Seahawks.
  • Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H.) made 10 saves and falls to 5-8 in net for the Scots.
  • Nick Palandjian (Belmont, Mass.) paced the Scots in scoring with three goals and an assist while Jason Dantona (Rockville Cente, N.Y.) also notched three goals.
  • Joe Sousa (Cranston, R.I.) won a game-high 19 faceoffs for the Seahawks who held a 19-29 advantage in that category. Sousa also grabbed a game-high 11 groundballs.
  • The Seahawks outshot the Scots 37-30.
