Seahawks drop road match with Golden Bears

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 25, 2017) – Fifteen different Golden Bears recorded goals as the Western New England University men's lacrosse team celebrated senior night with a 22-8 victory over Salve Regina University on Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
• Sophomore Tim Breau (Lima, N.Y.) led the balanced offensive performance with three goals and one assist, while juniors Michael Wood (Southborough, Mass.) and Chris Stone (Drexel Hill, Pa.) also tallied four points each.
• Seniors Keegan Dudeck (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Frank Medlicott (Stanwood, Wash.) got in on the action with two goals and one assist apiece in their final regular season home game.
• Sophomore Hunter Cocks (Walden, N.Y.) and junior Preston Stolberg (Highland Park, Ill.) went a combined 23-of-33 (70%) at the face-off X.

• Senior Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) paced the Seahawks with a team-high three points (two goals, one assist), while junior Andrew Fera (Cranston, R.I.) scored and collected three ground balls.

Game Review
• Freshman Liam Baker (Mount Laurel, N.J.) opened the scoring for the Golden Bears at the 10:40 mark of the first quarter, and Western New England never looked back from there. Stone made it 2-0 with 9:41 on the clock, and Dudeck found the back of the net 26 seconds later. Breau closed out the quarter with three straight goals, the last of which came with just two seconds remaining, as the Golden Bears led 6-0 through 15 minutes of play.
• LoCicero got the Seahawks on the board at the 8:27 mark of the second quarter, but Western New England responded with a 5-0 run, bookended by goals from Medlicott at 7:32 and 3:47 respectively, to open up a commanding 11-1 lead.
• Sophomore Dana Sundell (Nantucket, Mass.) netted Salve Regina's second goal late in the half as the Seahawks faced an 11-2 deficit at the break.
• Western New England continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Seahawks 4-1 in a frame that featured senior captain Steven Patrie's (Lewiston, Maine) first career goal.
• Seven different Golden Bears scored in the fourth quarter as Western New England extended the final margin to 14 (22-8).

Notes
• Western New England outshot Salve Regina 55-26 and matched its highest goal total since scoring 22 against Gordon last April.
• The Golden Bears went a perfect 16-for-16 on clear attempts.
• Junior goalie Steven Kerr (Hopkinton, Mass.) was forced to make just three saves in his 45 minutes in the cage.

Western New England (7-9, 7-1 CCC) earns the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CCC Tournament and will receive a first round bye before taking on the winner of the No. 3 UNE/No. 6 Nichols contest next Wednesday in Springfield. Salve Regina's season comes to a close at 8-9 overall and 2-6 in CCC play.
