Summary
The Salve Regina University men's lacrosse team scored three straight to close the game but could not net a fourth in the finals seconds to force overtime in a 9-8 loss to the University of New England.

Series and Streaks
This was the 19th meeting between the Seahawks and Nor'easters. The Seahawks still own a 11-8 advantage in the series but have now lost two in a row to UNE.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – UNE junior Dan Auger (Nashua, N.H.) scored twice and collected a game-high 19 ground balls.
2 – Salve Regina sophomore Andrew Fera (Cranston, R.I.) scored three times and added two assists.
3 – Salve Regina junior Nick LoCicero (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored twice and handed out a game high three assists.

Key Stat of the Game
The Nor'easters scored four straight goals, one with 13 seconds to go in the first half, then three straight to open up the third quarter. The Seahawks didn't score in the third until there was 1:55 remaining and they trailed by four.

Turning Point
Trailing by four the Seahawks slowly came back to draw within one goal, 9-8 with 1:43 left to play. The Seahawks had multiple chances to score the equalizer but netminder David Pearson (Scarborough, Maine) turned aside some big shots from Sharp Jones (Scituate, Mass.) in the final seconds and the Nor'easters were able to hang on for the win.

Quick Hits

  • Salve Regina tied the game 4-4 late in the first half but Auger scored with 13 seconds to go on a spectacular over the shoulder shot to give UNE the lead again. Salve Regina never led in the game but did force two ties.
  • Zach Makoske (Shoreham, N.Y.) score two goals and Jake Gonzalez (Tolland, Conn.) added one more to complete the scoring for Salve Regina.
  • Gonzalez took all 19 draws, winning 11 for the Seahawks while a tandem of Sean Conger (Holden, Mass.), Matt Layton (Medford, N.Y.), and Connor Leggett (Sunderland, Vt.) handled the duties inside the circle for the Nor'easters.
  • Matt D'Amore (Duxbury, Mass.) made 17 saves for the Seahawks while the Nor'easters split their goalie duties between John Dusel (Wilbraham, Mass.) who had six saves in the first half and Pearson who had nine in the second.
