Summary
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - The Endicott College men's ice hockey team railed in the third period to defeat Salve Regina University 4-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday evening.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks still lead 8-3 in the all-time series however the Gulls do snap a five-game losing streak to the Seahawks.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Endicott freshman Thomas Albert (Reading, Mass.) scored his first career goal at 13:12 of the third to put the Gulls on top 3-2. It proved to be the game-winning goal.
  2. Endicott junior Jake Simons (Coral Springs, Fla.) scored twice and handed out an assist.
  3. Endicott sophomore Conor O'Brien (Pinellas Park, Fla.) made 27 saves while allowing two goals to improve to 10-4 in net for the Gulls.

Turning Point
After trailing 2-0 after the first period to Gulls put together a strong period defensively in the second, holding the Seahawks scoreless on two power play opportunities, while converting their only chance of the period into a goal courtesy of Jake Simons to draw within one. In the third Freshman forward Zach Mazur broke through again on the power play for the goals and the game was tied with 11:29 left to play. Later in the third the Seahawks could not clear a put and it bounced from the boards into the high slot and the waiting stick of Thomas Albert who one-timed it to the back of the net to give Endicott the lead. Salve Regina would pull their netminder in the final minute, freeing Simons for his second goal of the game to secure the win for Endicott.

  • The Seahawks went 0-for-5 on the power play while the Gulls were 2-for-3 with the man advantage.
  • Louis-Felix St. Jean (St. Bruno, Quebec) made 34 saves for the Seahawks and falls to 6-4-0 in net.

  • The Gulls had been 0-3 in games where they trailed entering the third period before tonight.
  • George Sennott (North Andover, Mass.) scored first for the Seahawks, deflecting a puck high and over the Gulls goalie, the Danny Philbrick (Rye, N.H.) scored his first of the season on a one-timer from the slot to round out the Seahawks scoring, all in the first period.

Salve Regina (10-4-1, 6-1-1 CCC) will travels to face University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup on Friday, January 24, at 7 p.m. Endicott College (10-5-0; 6-2-0 CCC) travels to face Becker on January 23.
