NEWPORT, R.I. (February 15, 2020) - Salve Regina University junior guard Kevin Kelly (Valhalla, N.Y.) made nine of 12 field goal attempts and finished with a team-high 25 points as the Seahawks defeated the visiting Fighting Scots of Gordon College, 96-77, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

Kelly was joined by three other teammates scoring in double figures - junior forward Cameron Collins (Oakdale, Conn.) with 16 points, sophomore guard Mikey Spencer (Abington, Mass.) with 14 points, and sophomore forward Chris Peasley (Plainfield, Conn.) with 10 points. Spencer made it a double-double with a team-high 12 rebounds.

Gordon was paced by the league's leading scorer Eric Demers (Acushnet, Mass.). The senior guard finished with a game-high 30 points despite just having 10 at the break. Sophomore David Massilon (Lynn, Mass.) registered a double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds and 14 points.

Junior guard Josh Crutchfield (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) hit a 3-pointer five minutes into the game that put the visitors up two (13-11), before Kelly's layup ignited a 12-2 run for the Seahawks.

Salve Regina (10-13, 6-8 CCC) led by 22 at the break (56-34). The 56 points were the most by the Seahawks in any half this season; previous high of 55 of first half during a home win against Curry on January 11. The Seahawks continue to raise their season shooting percentage closer to 50 (49.2%) by making 29-of-56 shots (51.8%) this afternoon.

Gordon had the edge on the boards by one, 38-37. The last time these teams met in Wenham, Mass., on January 18, Salve Regina had its first overtime win of the season (1-4) with a final score of 100-99; a Demers potential game-winning 3-pointer was nullified as it came after the final buzzer. That was the closest margin of victory for the Seahawks this season and today was the largest (+19).

The Seahawks and Scots (11-12, 6-8 CCC) are in a three-way tie with Roger Williams for the final two spots in the postseason with two games remaining for all three. Salve Regina plays at Curry on Wednesday before finishing its regular-season slate against Wentworth Institute of Technology next Saturday at home.
