NEWPORT, R.I. (January 22, 2020) -- Salve Regina University junior forward Cameron Collins (Oakdale, Conn.) scored 26 points to lift his men's basketball team to a 76-70 win over visiting Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Wednesday night.

Series and Streaks
Nichols leads the all-time series, 29-26. The Seahawks snap a 13-game win streak for the Bison and beat Nichols for the first time in six years.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Seahawk junior Cameron Collins (Oakdale, Conn) made 10-of-15 shots from the field and six-of-eight from the line to post 26 points and grab five rebounds.
  2. Seahawk junior Kevin Kelly (Valhalla, N.Y.) scored 20 points on eight-of-15 from the floor and four-of-five at the charity stripe. He also dished out seven assists.
  3. Bison senior DeAnte Bruton (New London, Conn.) led his team with 19 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. His two 3-pointers came in the final 25 seconds.

Key Stat of the Game
Salve Regina outrebounded Nichols by 17 (46-29) and the Seahawks made 14-of-19 (73.7%) free throws to just nine-of-16 (56.3%) for the Bison.

Turning Point
Four ties and six lead changes, Salve Regina took the lead for good (29-28) after a 3-pointer by freshman Patrick Williamson (Huntington, N.Y.) with 6:22 remaining in the first half and had a double-digit lead at the break.

  • Salve Regina's bench contributed 17 points including a double-double for sophomore Chris Peasley (Plainfield, Conn.) who finished with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
  • Nichols had three others score in double digits including Matt Morrow (Leicester, Mass.), Nate Tenaglia (Tewksbury, Mass.), and Joseph Sekator (Coventry, R.I.) with 16, 10, and 10 points, respectively.
  • Salve Regina's sophomore guard Mikey Spencer finished with 11 points before fouling out.
