Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University men's basketball made 56 percent of its field goal attempts (28-of-50) and defeated Suffolk University, 73-64, in a non-league meeting at the Rodgers Recreation Center on Sunday afternoon. Senior Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) and freshman Cameron Collins (Oakdale, Conn.) led the Seahawks with 22 and 16 points, respectively; Suffolk sophomore Thomas Duffy (Fairfield, Conn.) led all players with 23 points. Salve Regina improves to 2-2 with its second straight win while Suffolk suffers its fourth consecutive defeat to fall to 1-4.

Salve Regina evens the all-time series at 12 wins apiece with its sixth victory in the last seven meetings. Rodney Morton scores 20 or more points for his fourth straight game to start the season.

  1. Salve Regina senior Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) made 7-of-13 from the floor including 4-of-7 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 22 points.
  2. Suffolk sophomore Thomas Duffy (Fairfield, Conn.) made 8-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line to finish with a game-high 23 points. He also had seven assists and three steals.
  3. Salve Regina freshman Cameron Collins (Oakdale, Conn.) came off the bench to score 16 points on 7-of-8 from the floor; 2-for-4 from the line. He had a game-high eight rebounds.

Salve Regina dominated on both ends of the glass with a 14-rebound advantage at halftime (22-to-8), and finishing with 12 offensive boards (six for Suffolk) and 23 defensive caroms (17 for the Rams).

Turning Point
After sophomore George Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) sank a layup for a six-point Suffolk lead, 10-4, with 14:33 left in the first half, Salve Regina went on a 17-3 run over the next four and half minutes. Six different Seahawks scored field goals including a two- and 3-pointer from junior Isaiah Bowman (Roxbury, Mass.), and one each from Morton, Collins, Gabe Granberry (Dorchester, Mass.), Michael McCourt (Lincoln, R.I.), and Stephen Natola (Exeter, N.H.).
