Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Wentworth Institute of Technology senior Dan DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) and freshman Stephen Azums (Hyde Park, Mass.) both scored 17 points, in different fashions, to lead the Leopards to a 73-48 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win at Rodgers Recreation Center against Salve Regina University.

Salve Regina junior captain Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) led all scorers with 18 points, but was held under 20 points on his home court for the first time in 2016-17.

The Seahawks own a five-game advantage, 32-27, but the Leopards have won the last seven meetings overall (sweeping the season series) and Wentworth has left Newport victorious on its last eight visits.

  1. Wentworth senior guard Dan DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) had 15 of his 17 points by halftime making five of nine 3-pointers. He also added six rebounds.
  2. Wentworth freshman forward Stephen Azums (Hyde Park, Mass.) made eight of 10 field goals and added a free throw for 17 points.
  3. Salve Regina junior guard Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) had a game-high 18 points including a five points in seven seconds stretch where he sank three free throws and stole an errant pass during a Seahawk press to sink a baseline jumper.

Behind the arc - Wentworth made 56.3 percent of its 3-point tries (9-16) while Salve Regina struggled with a season-low 11.1 percent (2-18).

Turning Point
After Isaiah Bowman's (Roxbury, Mass.) 3-pointer gave Salve Regina a three-point lead (17-14 at 8:37 in the first), Wentworth went on a 15-2 run over a 4:05 span. DeVaux had three treys in the run and Azums added three baskets, including two layups.
