NEWPORT, R.I. - Bryce Boggs (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored a career-high 31 points and led all players, but Salve Regina University men's basketball fell to league-leading Nichols College, 83-75, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Series and Streaks
Salve Regina owns a 24-23 mark in the all-time series, but Nichols has won the last seven meetings. The Bison also have an active 11-game win streak.
Three Stars of the Game
1 – Nichols freshman Marcos Echevarria (Lynn, Mass.) - scored a team-high 25 points while draining seven of 11 3-pointers; also had three assists.
2 – Salve Regina sophomore Bryce Boggs (Hyde Park, Mass.) - notched a career high in scoring (31 points) for the second time in his last four games; previous high of 29 set against Endicott on January 30.
3 – Nichols junior Irving Eggleston (East Lyme, Conn.) - scored 22 points with nearly half from the free-throw line (10-of-16); shared team-high rebounding honors with Devin Stallings (Waterbury, Conn.) with eight boards apiece.
Key Stat of the Game
Foul trouble for Salve Regina junior Nicholas Bates (Danvers, Mass.) - two in the first half, and his fourth by the 8:21 mark of the second - kept the Seahawk captain off the floor and limited his opportunity to extend his double-double streak (ends after eight straight).
Turning Point
Echevarria opened the second half scoring with a four-point play, draining a 3-pointer and drawing a foul. The Bison enjoyed a 12-2 run to start the period after the teams were tied at 37-37 going into the break. Nichols made it look two E's (too easy) with Echevarria and Eggleston accounting for the dozen points on offense.
Quick Hits
- Salve Regina's Bates saw his double-double streak end after eight games. He has 12 double-doubles on the season. Bates finished the night with 13 points and eight rebounds.
- Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half while making four of seven 3-pointers.
- Stallings and Gustave Koumare (Harlem, N.Y.) both reached double figures in points for the Bison with 11 and 10, respectively.
- Connor Costello (Southborough, Mass.) grabbed eight boards to share team-high rebounding honors with Bates.

- Salve Regina slips a game behind University of New England and Western New England University, and has games remaining with both schools.
Quotes
"I thought our guys grinded and put us in a good position (first half); I'm pleased with our team offensively. On defense, we must stop chasing after the block and instead establish better positioning." - Salve Regina head coach Sean Foster
