NEWPORT, R.I. - Barrett Hanlon's (Hopkinton, Mass.) short jumper with 4.6 seconds left gave Salve Regina University men's basketball a 69-68 win over Roger Williams University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

Series and Streaks
Salve Regina now owns a 38-28 mark in the all-time series, and splits the season series with Roger Williams. Seahawks have won seven of the last nine meetings.

Three Stars of the Game
1 – Salve Regina junior Nicholas Bates (Danvers, Mass.) - finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds, and had his sixth consecutive game with a double-double by halftime.
2 – Roger Williams sophomore Jaylen Jennings (Norwalk, Conn.) - keyed a second-half comeback with a couple of 3-pointers and finished with 17 points.
3 – Salve Regina sophomore Rodney Morton (Malden, Mass.) - scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half.

Key Stat of the Game
Led by Bates' 14 boards, Salve Regina held a 39-21 advantage in rebounding. Roger Williams made 15 of 20 free throws (60 percent), but missed three of its last four with the lead including two in the final 13 seconds.

Turning Point
After an Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) layup with 1:37 remaining in the game made the score 67-61 in favor of the Hawks, Salve Regina had 3-point baskets from David Hanson (Stockton, England) and Bryce Boggs (Hyde Park, Mass.) to pull within one, 68-67. Roger Williams made one of four free throws in the final minute; Bates grabbed the defensive rebound on the last charity stripe miss to set up Hanlon's heroics.

Quotes
"I'm proud of how our guys battled tonight. After relinquishing a large lead we were able to grind down the stretch. Winning games at the college level is a learned skill and collectively our guys took a step forward in that area tonight led by our mentally tough captains Nick Bates and Barrett Hanlon." - Salve Regina head coach Sean Foster
